A septic alarm is a signal that something needs attention. It may be triggered by high water in a pump chamber, a pump or electrical problem, a clogged component, or unusually heavy water use.
First, reduce water use
Pause laundry, long showers, and other water-heavy tasks. This can help limit additional wastewater entering the system while you arrange service. Do not ignore an alarm that seems to stop on its own; the condition that caused it may recur.
Then call for help
Tell the service team when the alarm began, whether you have noticed slow drains or a backup, and whether recent rain or heavy water use may be involved. A technician can check the pump system and work out the cause.
Do not guess at an electrical repair
Pump chambers and electrical components should be inspected by qualified professionals. Avoid opening or entering a tank or chamber yourself. Septic tanks can contain dangerous gases and are never safe to enter.
